Warp Tapes 89–93

After its live debut on NTS during Warp’s 30th anniversary weekend, this collection of early (pre-warp, actually?) material from Autechre had been temporarily distributed for free on Autechre’s website, but appears to have been removed.

There are clear indications that these early recordings were the start of a long journey to the living architecture aesthetic that Autechre have since perfected (and yet continue to develop infinitely), but be aware that this is Autechre at their rave-est-est.

It took a bit for me to get used to the relative simplicity of these tracks, but after some time I grew to really love the sound of vintage Ae and listen to these jams often.

Expect lot’s of big beat, techno rave sounds, and some signature tweaking of Roland R-8 drum machines.

UPDATE: It seems that Warp Tapes 89-93 is still available via Autechre’s WeTransfer here: Warp Tapes 89–93
